Half Staff or Half Mast?

The age old question, is the flag at half staff or half mast? Based on what part of the world you live in is where you find the correct answer. For Americans, the easy answer is if you are on land, then the flag is at half staff. For the rest of the world, term half mast is used whether the flag is flown at sea or on the land.
