Sunday, April 27, 2014 all of us in Arkansas were glued to weather radios, TV and the internet tracking heavy storms with potential for tornadoes. Unfortunately the potential became reality. A single twister cut a nearly mile wide swath across central Arkansas. The tornado appears to have started in Pulaski county, just west of Little Rock and ripped through homes and businesses from Little Rock, Maumelle, Mayflower, Vilonia, Saltillo, El Paso and a number of other towns and rural communities.
We at Arkansas' FlagandBanner.com have experienced years of these sort of storms but this one was beyond anything we had ever witnessed. Just one single tornado causing this much damage and being on the ground as long as it was. It was devastating to watch. Many of our friends and neighbors lost homes, businesses and loved ones to this deadly storm.
In an effort to help we have compiled a list of places to donate.
Conway High School is collecting baby wipes, hand sanitizer, men's and women's new underwear, and socks for disaster relief. We will only accept these items. Our plan is to make a delivery to Mayflower High School on Wednesday (April 30) and a delivery to Vilonia on Thursday (May 1). The Conway band truck will be set up in front of the Career Center after 2:00 today. We will only accept these items at this time. We will talk to administrators after this delivery and see what we can do next. Please pass the word or send items with Conway students
Give online at https://donate.salvationarmyusa.org/uss/arkansastornados or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769).
You can also text the word "STORM" to 80888 to make a $10 donation through your mobile phone; to confirm your gift, respond with the word "Yes."*

2. in from Bishop Benfield:
We are already hearing that the best way to help immediately is likely to be financial support so that relief workers can buy in bulk any relief kits that are needed. Therefore, if you wish to donate to help with relief work, you can donate online to the Bishop Discretionary Fund or send money to the “Bishop’s Discretionary Fund, Diocese of Arkansas, P.O. Box 164558, Little Rock, AR 72216” and mark the donation for “tornado relief.” My office will then distribute it to the local churches and shelters as Ginger Bailey and her team inform us of the needs of each location.
This took place Monday night but I'm sure the church will welcome any and all donations in the following weeks:
