Why do you rub your head when you have a headache? Why do you immediately grab and hold your finger when you hit it with a hammer? Why is massage effective in relieving stress? I believe the answer is the power of touch. It is magical, mysterious and healing.

Throughout the process of putting together this edition of Brave, I have been reminded how metamorphosing our touch is. In this issue you will read about people who have touched other people’s lives. People who have bravely given of themselves to make life better for others and, in doing so, have remarkably enhanced their own lives. We can all recite from memory, “It is better to give than to receive.” The secret is the giver always receives more.

The upcoming patriotic season gives us Memorial Day and Independence Day. Inspired by the approaching holidays, two articles in this issue celebrate independence, Home Grown American Hero and Reconditioned Robin Hood. One article is a memorial, Brave Gift: A Tree of Life, which I would like to dedicate to Teena Webster, the bravest woman I have ever met.

There is also an story about a cross country motorcycle adventure that raised awareness and donations for special needs children. The common thread throughout this edition is the power of giving. As always, we have food, fashion and fun, with a little business advice from the publisher.

I’ve had a Diana Ross song tumbling about in my head for the duration of this particular issue. With her, I challenge you to ‘Reach out and touch somebody’s hand. Make this world a better place, if you can.’ To this end….
