Volume 6 Issue 1 Spring-Summer 2019
By Madison Monroe
irst of all, I would like to thank you for reading BRAVE Magazine. Can you believe this is our fifth year? Distribution is growing and our inbox is full of complementary emails. Now seems like a good time to step back and reflect on how we got here.
BRAVE started as a venue to relay the stories our sales team heard from customers just like you. We started small, distributing the magazine to only our Arkansas customers. The desire to share with you the narrative we hear every day was overwhelming. But, we are not in the publishing business. We are in the flag business. In order to defray some of the printing and distribution costs, we reached out to businesses offering them a cooperative advertising opportunity. So far, it has worked. (Look at the ads peppered throughout.) And now we are at a milestone... our fifth year!
Reflecting on BRAVE’s history, I realized that everything has a lineage. I thought of the women who proceeded me and the intrinsic qualities I possess that are a direct inheritance of my ancestry. The foundation of lineage is a shared human characteristic. We are all the product of those who came before us.
Oft times they cleared the path that made our journey easier. Each of us has our unique family story, but we also share a collective American experience. Our shared past marks the way for the generations that will follow and our interwoven future calls forth from us the pioneering spirit that cradles cooperation. No man is an island.
In this issue, you will find a tribute that honors our fallen heroes in Running to Honor. The articles Plateau to Mountaintop and Three Generations of Trailblazers explore how generations progressively move toward the American Dream. Of course, we have business advice from the publisher, Fun with Flags, Travel and Events and a great summer recipe. One of our customers submitted an article inviting you to sit back and relax on America’s Front Porch. This issue introduces a new column we call BRAVE Book Reviews. We hope we have included something for everyone to enjoy.
Be Brave... together,
Madison
